Is this web site Disability Accessible?

Answer:

Question:

I am a student at UCLA interested in learning about a career in medicine. How can I join the American Medical Student Association?

Answer:

All currently enrolled students at UCLA may apply to be members of the AMSA Pre-Medical Chapter at UCLA. Application forms may be downloaded and printed, then submitted in person at an AMSA meeting along with dues for either annual or multiple years in advance. Welcome!

Question:

Are there dues for the AMSA Pre-Medical Chapter at UCLA?

Answer:

No, there are no separate dues for members of the AMSA Pre-Medical Chapter at UCLA. To become a member, students must join the national AMSA organization as pre-medical student members and thereby become members of the local AMSA chapter at UCLA.

Question:

My friend is interested in being a leader in the AMSA Pre-Medical Chapter at UCLA, but is not a student at UCLA. Can my friend run for election and be a member?

Answer:

No, only currently registered and enrolled students in the University of California, Los Angeles are permitted to participate in the AMSA Pre-Medical Chapter.

Registered students in pre-medical studies at another college or university may join that school's AMSA chapter or if there is none, then seek to form a new pre-medical chapter with help of national AMSA.

Others may join national AMSA in one of two membership categories: People who are post-graduate or "post-bacc" students from an accredited U.S. institution and are interested in pursuing medicine as a career or supporting the goals of national AMSA may apply to join national AMSA as a "Premedical Student" and others may apply to join as a "Supporting Affiliate."


Question:

When and where does AMSA meet at UCLA?

Answer:

There are eight to nine large weekly membership meetings per quarter on Wednesdays from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, known as General Membership Meetings. Schedules of events and guest speakers are posted for each quarter and members receive weekly emails describing the programs and other news of interest to pre-medical students.

In addition, there are many special events, social gatherings, community outreach, legislative, fundraising and other participatory activities listed for each sponsoring Action Committee and are also announced in the weekly President's emals to members.

Meeting Locations

The assigned meeting room for AMSA's general weekly meeting changes each quarter and is posted on the meetings and events page in advance of the quarter.

What are the benefits of participating in AMSA?

Answer:

The many tangible and personal benefits include oppportunities for developing leadership and teamwork skills, networking, mentorship with current UCLA medical students, the ability to hear physicians and other expert speakers on subjects important to future doctors, and gaining expertise in subject areas of the five very active Action Committees and their many projects, and enjoying the spirit of the future professionals in our chosen field of medicine.
