Options for Non-UCLA Students

National AMSA provides many options for persons who are not eligible for membership in a local AMSA chapter.

Under a new approved policy, certain resources and access to members' activities is coming soon. Using a secure ID and password, current members in good standing of AMSA will be able to log onto the Members-Only section of amsabruins.org and enjoy special benefits and access to resources. This ia a very good reason to join now and keep up membership in good standing!

Joining AMSA for UCLA Pre-Medical Students

UCLA pre-medical undergraduate students or graduate students interested in medical careers may apply to join AMSA Pre-Medical at UCLA by submitting the application and dues.

Applications

NEW! Two options to download and print your application:

These membership forms will open in a new window or screen on your computer. The Membership Application or the Brochure with Application may be used for both new membership and membership renewals.

Dues

Payment of $50 annual dues in advance (by check or money order payable to "AMSA Pre-Medical Chapter at UCLA") is required for membership. The single dues amount includes concurrent membership in both our local UCLA chapter and national AMSA (www.amsa.org).

To become a member of this chapter at UCLA, a student must also join the national AMSA organization as a pre-medical student member and thereby become a member of the local AMSA chapter at UCLA. There are no separate dues for members of the AMSA Pre-Medical Chapter at UCLA. The single dues amount to be paid to the local UCLA chapter includes membership in both the local chapter and Pre-Medical Student Membership in national AMSA. The dues payment made to the local chapter is forwarded to the national AMSA to cover national membership.

Annual Membership Period
Because new members are welcome to join at any time throughout the year, the annual membership period runs for 12 months from the date of payment. For example, a dues payment made in any month in Winter Quarter 2009 entitles a new member to membership privileges through the same month in Winter Quarter 2010. Dues are not pro-rated for partial years.

Activities

Mandatory: All members must perform a minimum of these two activities each year:

Membership is enhanced by participating in the Action Committees and Projects, as an active member and working with the officers and other members to make other events a success. Attendance at the maximum number of events each year is not only strongly encouraged but will benefit the member's development of awareness of healthcare and medical issues and acquisition of many skills relevant to a future as a physician.

Options for Non-UCLA Students

Registered students in pre-medical studies at another college or university may join that school's AMSA chapter or if there is none, then may seek to form a new pre-medical chapter with help of national AMSA. Under national AMSA's new rules, all persons must become a member of national AMSA in order to be eligible as a local chapter member.

National AMSA membership is open to a person who is a registered student at a college or university in pre-medical studies, or is an allied health professional student or a post-graduate or "post-bacc" student interested in pursuing medicine as a career or supporting the goals of national AMSA.

There are two categories for such persons to join national AMSA:
