ORGANIZATION:

STRUCTURE & FUNCTION OF AMSA PRE-MED @ UCLA

Organization

The organization of the AMSA Pre-Medical Chapter at UCLA is based on its Constitution.

Executive Board, Officers
There is an Executive Board composed of eight officers who serve for one year terms as External President, Internal President, Secretary, Finance Chair, Membership Chair, Publicity, Webmaster and Resource Chair.

Action Committees
In addition the leadership is composed of the Chairs of the five Action Committees (AC's), each of which selects one or more Projects, headed by Project Directors, to accomplish during that year and some of which continue annually.

Regular Weekly Meetings
There are weekly meetings of all officers, Action Committee Chairs to discuss agenda items such as planning the business of the AMSA Pre-Medical Chapter and to give each officer, AC Chair and Project Director an opportunity to report progess and obtain assistance with their work. Designated Interns are welcome but not required to attend these meetings.

Mandatory Meetings and Events
Members must serve on one Action Committee for the year to remain in good standing.

Selection of the Officers, Action Committee Chairs and Project Directors
Selection of all office holders occurs at the end of the Winter Quarter. Applications for all positions are submitted by interested members in good standing. Based on a myriad of information including input from existing officers, AC Chairs and Project Directors of the current year, the two President positions are selected. The two newly selected incoming Presidents generally confer with the outgoing two Presidents to fill all the other positions for the next one-year terms.

Interns
Members in good standing may also apply to be Interns at the beginning of the Fall Quarter. Applications are distributed at the first AMSA meeting in the fall. Applicants may list preferences for intern position to an Officer or Action Committees and attempts are made to match them to requests by officers and Action Committee Chairs for one or more interns. Selected interns are then assigned by the AMSA leadership to serve in a capacity assisting an officer, Action Committee Chair or Project Director for the year (three quarters).

Transfer of Leadership in Spring
At the end of the Winter Quarter leadership is transfered to the new officers and leaders of Action Committees and Projects to begin with the start of the Spring Quarter. At that time, a "retreat" with training in duties and an installation Banquet are held for new and outgoing leadership.
